“This new era debuts a comprehensive, redesigned wellness destination that brings together the best of Fitbit’s pioneering spirit with the helpfulness of Google,” the company said in a blog post.

The redesigned app will retain key Fitbit features while introducing several upgrades and new AI-powered capabilities.

New layout and personalised dashboards

The Google Health app will feature a redesigned interface with four main tabs — Today, Fitness, Sleep and Health — allowing users to quickly access different aspects of their wellness data.

Users will also be able to customise dashboard sections for faster access to preferred metrics and insights.

Expanded health tracking

According to Google, the app will support syncing, logging and tracking of data related to activity, fitness, sleep, vitals and medical records. It will also help users analyse trends and monitor progress over time.

The app will integrate with hundreds of third-party apps and devices through Health Connect, Apple Health and Google Health APIs, enabling users to view information such as workouts from Peloton and meal data from MyFitnessPal in one place.

Medical records and AI-powered coaching

In the United States, users will also be able to sync medical records to the app, including lab results, vitals and medications. Google said users will retain control over how their data is used, shared or deleted.

The company also announced the introduction of Google Health Coach, an AI-powered assistant built using Gemini AI.

“The entire Google Health app is elevated with the Google Health Coach built with Gemini,” the blog post said.

The AI coach will provide personalised health insights, workout suggestions, sleep analysis and summaries of medical records. Users will also be able to create and save workout plans using natural language prompts.

New Fitbit Air tracker introduced

Google also unveiled the Google Fitbit Air, which it described as its “thinnest and mightiest tracker”.

The lightweight wearable will feature advanced health sensors and seamless integration with the Google Health app, allowing 24/7 tracking.

The company said users subscribing to Google Health Premium will gain access to deeper health insights and personalised coaching powered by Google Health Coach.

The Google Health app will begin rolling out globally to users on May 19.

The app will automatically update, and existing users will not need to take any action.
