Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has announced that the company plans to spend up to $150 billion annually on supply chain partners in Taiwan, underlining the island’s central role in the global artificial intelligence ecosystem.

Speaking at a company meeting, Huang said Nvidia also plans to expand its workforce in Taiwan to around 4,000 employees.

“Taiwan is the epicenter of the AI revolution. This is where the chips and packaging come from. This is where the systems are made. This is where AI supercomputers were created,” Huang was quoted as saying by Nikkei Asia.

Highlighting Nvidia’s growing investments in the region, Huang said the company had spent roughly $10 billion to $15 billion annually in Taiwan just three to four years ago.

“Now we’re spending $100 billion to $150 billion in Taiwan each year,” he said. “$150 billion from one company alone is going to fuel an incredible ecosystem here.”

Huang added that Taiwan’s booming technology sector had validated his long-held optimism about the region.

“I was right. Taiwan’s booming, and it makes sense Taiwan is booming,” he said.

He also praised Nvidia’s Taiwanese partners, noting that many companies in the region were benefiting significantly from the AI boom.

“The number of partners we work with here in Taiwan is incredible. You can just see from their stock prices — they’re doing so well,” Huang said.

According to reports, Huang’s remarks come at a time when rival chipmaker AMD is also increasing investments in Taiwan.

‘AI Will Not Cause Mass Layoffs’

Addressing concerns over artificial intelligence replacing human workers, Huang said AI would help companies grow rather than shrink their workforce.

“AI is not the reason we are going to have layoffs. AI is the way we avoid it, so that we could be more successful,” Huang was quoted as saying by Nikkei Asia.

“You are not going to lose your job to AI. You are going to lose your job to someone who uses AI.”

He added that broader adoption of AI would ultimately create more employment opportunities.

“The number of jobs will grow, but you have to engage AI. The more AI we use, the more productive we are, the more people we hire,” he said.
