The victim, who has been identified as  Hrishikesh Koloth was reportedly working at a uranium exploration site when the attack occurred.

For more than a decade, he had trained in MMA, first in India and later in Canada after moving there three years ago to pursue his dream of becoming a professional fighter.

He had been living in Penticton, British Columbia, with his brother, Arjun Koloth.

According to reports, he was working as a contract technician at the Zoo Bay property operated by Vancouver-based UraniumX Discovery Corp.

Speaking about his brother, Arjun told CNBC, “That was his dream. That’s why he came here.”

“He wanted to fight in the UFC,” he added.

Reports said a civilian at the site shot and killed the bear following the attack.

The animal has since been transported to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon for a necropsy, CBC News reported.

UraniumX Discovery Corp has also confirmed the death of its employee.

According to reports, this was only the fourth fatal bear attack recorded in Saskatchewan’s history.

In a previous incident, 44-year-old Stephanie Blais was killed in a bear attack in 2020 near her family’s cabin north of Buffalo Narrows.
