At least 11 people were injured in a stabbing attack inside a Walmart in the US state of Michigan, officials said on Sunday.
Police have taken the man into custody.
Confirming the development, Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook: "On 7-26-25 at 4:43 pm, a 42 year old male subject, acting alone, entered Walmart in Garfield Township and used a folding knife to stab eleven people of unknown ages."
"A Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Deputy was on scene within minutes and took the man into custody. Citizens in Walmart also assisted in the apprehension and treatment of victims," the Facebook post said.
The Sheriff's Office said all victims are being treated for injuries at Munson Medical Center.
The office described said condition of some of the victims as 'serious'.
Munson Healthcare said it is currently treating 11 victims of the attack.
It wrote on Facebook: "Munson Healthcare is currently treating 11 patients as a result of this stabbing incident – 5 are in serious condition and 6 are in critical condition at this time."
Sheriff Michael Shea described the incident as a 'random act'.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer described the incident as 'brutal act of violence'.
She wrote on X: " I’m in touch with law enforcement about the horrible news out of Traverse City. Our thoughts are with the victims and the community reeling from this brutal act of violence. I am grateful to the first responders for their swift response to apprehend the suspect."
