Kabul: A provincial head in the Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs has been killed in an armed attack by unknown gunmen on Thursday in Afghanistan's Kandahar.
According to local media reports, Mohammad Omar Akhundzadeh was killed and his bodyguard was wounded during the attack.
The incident took place around 9 am in Chawoni area of Police District 13 (PD13), Abdulbashir Khaksar, deputy spokesman for the Kandahar police, confirmed.
While the suspect fled the scene, an investigation has been started to nab those involved in the killing.
No group, including the Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
