Riyadh: In a first for Saudi Arabia, the country has appointed a woman to run a bank.
Lubna Al Olayan has been appointed the head of a new bank formed out of a merger between the Saudi British Bank and Alawwal Bank, reported BBC.
Al Olayan is a prominent Saudi businesswoman.
The move comes at a time when Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of its Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has visibly softened its conservative stance towards women, allowing them to drive cars.
Earlier this year, Al Olayan topped the list of Forbes Middle East's Most Influential Women 2018.
The new bank is said to be the country's third biggest bank.
