A 19-year-old married woman was allegedly gang-raped by four men inside a van in Rawalpindi, media reports said, once again raising serious concerns over women’s safety in the country.
According to a police spokesperson, special teams have been formed to apprehend the accused, and raids are currently underway. The victim has undergone a medical examination, officials confirmed.
An FIR has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.
As per the complaint cited by Dawn News, the woman had left her home to purchase clothes for her children ahead of Eid and boarded a van from a local market.
During the journey, the vehicle’s conductor allegedly shut the doors and diverted the van towards Chak Beli Road. When the victim protested, she was overpowered, the FIR stated.
She was later forced into another vehicle near Chak Beli Morr. The accused then reportedly took her to the Baga Sheikhan area, where they attempted to move her into a nearby house.
According to the FIR, an additional accomplice joined them. The victim was restrained and gagged before being assaulted inside the vehicle.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify and arrest those involved.
