The claim emerged after reports that the aircraft, identified as an F-35, was struck during an operation by the IRGC Aerospace Force.

According to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, the pilot ejected from the aircraft before landing in territory under Iranian control.

Government-linked sources also indicated that the individual is now in custody. The claims have not been independently verified.

Second 'unkillable' F-35 down

The development follows assertions from Iranian authorities that a second US fifth-generation F-35 fighter jet was intercepted and downed over central Iran.

State media outlet Press TV, citing officials from the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, reported that the aircraft was targeted by an advanced air-defence system operated by the IRGC Aerospace Force.

“A second US fifth-generation F-35 was struck and downed over central Iran by a new IRGC Aerospace Force air-defence system,” a spokesperson said.

The official added that the scale of the explosion at the crash site suggested the pilot was unlikely to have ejected.

Warning of retaliatory action

Iranian officials also issued warnings of possible retaliation in response to any attacks on critical infrastructure.

Speaking to Press TV, the spokesperson cautioned against targeting bridges, power plants or energy facilities within Iran.

“Any attack on Iran’s bridges, power plants, or energy infrastructure will prompt strikes not only on all US and Israeli assets in the region and occupied territories but also on key holdings of US allies and host nations – harder and more devastating than before,” the spokesperson said.

The official further stated, “Countries hosting US bases must force American forces to leave if they want to stay safe.”

The reported incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with competing narratives emerging around military activity and airspace engagements.
