Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir was seen in a viral video being stopped by a security official during an event in Munich, Germany, after he was reportedly asked to visibly display his identity card.

According to media reports, Munir was in Germany to attend the prestigious Munich Security Conference. In the widely circulated clip, a security officer can be seen instructing the Pakistani Army chief to keep his identification card clearly visible at the front, in line with event security protocols.

Meanwhile, a Germany-based Sindhi political organisation, Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), objected to Munir’s participation in the conference. The group described the invitation extended to him as “deeply regrettable”.

News agency ANI reported that JSMM members staged a protest outside the venue, raising concerns over alleged human rights violations in Pakistan.

In a formal statement addressed to the United Nations, the European Union, the German government, and international human rights bodies, JSMM Chairman Shafi Burfat expressed what he termed “deep shock and regret” over Munir’s presence at the high-level global forum, ANI reported.

What is the Munich Security Conference?

The Munich Security Conference (MSC), according to its official website, is regarded as the world’s leading forum for debating international security policy. The MSC describes its conferences as a “marketplace of ideas” where initiatives and solutions are developed and diverse perspectives are exchanged.

The event provides a platform for both official and informal diplomatic engagement, aiming to address some of the world’s most pressing security challenges. True to its founding motto — “peace through dialogue” — the conference offers a protected space for informal meetings between global leaders and policymakers.

In addition to its annual flagship gathering in Munich, the MSC organises high-level events focused on specific regions and issues, and publishes the Munich Security Report — an annual compendium of data, maps and research analysing key global security trends.
