South Korea's opposition leader Lee Jae-myung was attacked with a knife while he was visiting Busan City on Tuesday.
Lee, chairman of the main opposition Democratic Party, was attacked on the left side of his neck by an unidentified man at 10:27 a.m. during a question and answer session with reporters after touring the construction site of a new airport on Busan's Gadeok Island, reported Yonhap news agency.
Lee was taken to Pusan National University Hospital for treatment.
At the time of the transfer, Lee remained conscious, but the bleeding continued, the news agency reported.
The attacker was arrested.
An eyewitness told Yonhap news agency the male suspect pretended to be one of Lee's supporters.
He approached the South Korean politician and asked for his autograph and then attacked with an unidentified weapon.

is a South Korean politician serving as a member of the National Assembly and the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea.
Lee was the nominee of the Democratic Party in the 2022 South Korean presidential election.
