Islamabad: Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan has said rapists should be either publicly hanged or chemically castrated, while answering a question about the recent motorway rape that stirred protests in the national capital, Islamabad, recently.
"They [rapists] should be given exemplary punishments. In my opinion, they should be hanged at the chowk," Khan told Moeed Pirzada during an interview on Monday.
"Unfortunately, when we had the discussion, [we were] told it would not be internationally acceptable," the prime minister said.
"They said the GSP-Plus trade status given to us by the European Union will be affected," Khan added.
The former cricketer-turned-politician said the country could follow other nations and use chemical castrations for rapists.
Khan also took potshots at India, calling its capital- New Delhi- the rape capital of the world. According to the Pakistani Prime Minister, the city witnessed an increase in crimes against women due to growing obscenities in Bollywood, the Mumbai-based movie industry.
"World history tells when you increase fahashi [vulgarity] in the society, two things happen: sex crimes increase and the family system breaks down," he said.
