Globsyn Skills organises a Kaushal Mela in Assam
Lakhimpur, Assam, Oct 6 (JEN): Globsyn Skills organised a Kaushal Mela at Lakhimpur in Assam recently with the objective of encouraging the youth in north-eastern India to participate in skills development programmes.

The Chief Guest on this occasion was Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State-Independent Charge for Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of India.

Globsyn Skills Development (P) Ltd. is a 'not-only-for-profit' social enterprise, formed by the Kolkata-based Globsyn Group in equity partnership with the National Skills Development Corporation with an ambitious mission of grooming 1 million youth over 10 years. Since 2012, Globsyn Skills has trained over 70,000 trainees across 500+ centres in 20 states.

Kaushal Melas are initiatives aimed at encouraging the youth to look at skill development as a preferred choice for their career. Globsyn Skills is committed to build its ecosystem in north-eastern India over the coming months.

This Kaushal Mela was an important step in that direction, and provided a platform to generate greater awareness amongst the youth of this region about the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY).

Rahul Dasgupta, Managing Director, Globsyn Skills, while talking about this initiative, said, “We are happy to organize this Kaushal Mela in Lakhimpur, Assam. This is a step towards our mission of mainstreaming vocational education in the north-eastern states in the coming years.”

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) is being implemented by the newly created Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship through the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), in collaboration with its certified training partners and the respective state governments in 543 constituencies in India.

The training would be based on the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and industry-led standards. Under the scheme, a monetary reward is given to trainees on assessment and certification by Sector Skill Councils (SSC).

The average monetary reward is around Rs.7,500 per trainee. In the last two months, Globsyn Skills has enrolled over 4500 trainees under the PMKVY in 88 centres across 17 states; they are being trained in 5 high-growth sectors like banking, retail, beauty and wellness, tourism and hospitality, and plumbing by 107 SSC-certified faculty.

Globsyn Skills have organised Kaushal Melas in various districts of West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra in the past, and would  be conducting similar Kaushal Melas in other states like Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Tripura to raise awareness about the advantages that can accrue to an individual by enrolling in skills development programmes.
