Hindus hold massive rally in Chittagong, demand urgent govt action for repression of minority
The Hindu community leaders held a massive rally in Chittagong recently and demanded the interim government of Bangladesh take action against the repression of the minority communities of the country.
Speaking at the rally, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, Bangladesh Sanatan Jagoron Moncho spokesperson, was quoted as saying by Dhaka Tribune: “If anyone wants to evict us from this country and live in peace, it will become Afghanistan or Syria. There will be no democratic force. Bangladesh will become a sanctuary of communalism.”
Sanatan Jagoron Moncho group has been protesting against the attacks on minority members in the country since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina on August 5.
Chinmoy said: "The more we are tortured, the more united we become. This unity is the unity of the culture of Bengal since the independence of Bangladesh. This unity cannot be broken in any way. A coordinating committee of 19 members has already been formed for the purpose of realizing the eight-point demand.”
Since the toppling of the former Hasina-led government, several Bangladeshi media reports and social media platforms claimed that radicals attacked temples and Hindu establishments across Bangladesh.
Chinmoy said there would be mass rallies across all divisions before a long march to be held towards Dhaka.
Demanding that seats in Parliament be arranged for Hindus on a proportional basis, the leader said: “If necessary, we will boycott the vote. We don't want farce in the name of democracy.”
Bangladesh has been ruled by an interim government ever since Hasina's exit from the nation.
