Job Summary

The Communications Specialist supports and manages the communications and knowledge management aspects of the USAID funded Ana ndi Achinyamata Patsogolo (ANAPA) project. Reporting to the Chief of Party, USAID ANAPA, the Communication Specialist will develop and execute the Project’s Communications and Knowledge Management strategy using the latest information technology, when appropriate, to reach key stakeholders at the national, district and international levels. S/he will generate, compile, and disseminate program data and information to program stakeholders in a timely manner. S/he will work closely with other team members to document and disseminate successes and lessons learned and develop activities and products to distribute information effectively. She/he will be the liaison with the USAID and ANAPA Consortium members’ Communication team. The Communication Specialist is responsible for the following:

• Develop a Communications and Knowledge Management strategy that is well aligned to the project’s goals and objectives; and supports reporting and dissemination of the Project’s achievements and successes.
• Coordinate and work with key program staff and stakeholders to compile, write, and disseminate program monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the donor including all critical reports to government and key stakeholders.
• Lead in organizing preparations for donor, Government and other agencies visits to the project
• Oversee, manage and provide guidance to project and partner staff on USAID and Project Hope Namibia corporate branding of the project.
• Lead efforts to increase the visibility of the ANAPA project by taking advantage of key communication opportunities and platforms.
• Act as the Public Relations focal person for the project and manage all external communications with the print and electronic media.
• Manage the full production cycle for communications products (print, digital and audio/visual) including copyediting, layout/design, printing and dissemination.
• Advise project teams on using digital platforms (e.g., social media, blogs, podcasts, and other web-based platforms) to reach in-country and global audiences.
• Build the capacity of project staff (and local NGO/CSO partners) to produce quality written and visual materials (e.g, conduct workshops on effective writing, success stories, photography, effective presentations, etc.).
• Support the project team to plan and execute key events such as launches, donor/government field visits, conferences, and other events as needed.
• Pull together information, case studies, operational research and learning from other members of the project to inform advocacy and program development activities.
• Coordinate with Project Hope corporate communications office to ensure that project data is shared appropriately with stakeholders (e.g, effective data visualization) and used to tell the story of project achievements.
• Manage consultants, when necessary, to help implement the communications strategy in areas of web design, media outreach, photography, videography, and publication design and layout.
• Undertake other tasks, as assigned by the COP.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities

• Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Behavioral Sciences, Social Sciences or related field
• Five years of experience working in a communication, and/or knowledge management role in international development, non-profit, or corporate setting.
• Proven ability to work with digital, including social media, platforms.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
• Demonstrated experience in writing technical reports and editing technical content for both print publications and web.
• Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with project team members, partner staff, donors, and other cooperating agencies.
• Demonstrated managerial and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
• Big picture thinker with strong team building and organizational skills preferred.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite 6, including Photoshop and InDesign preferred.
• Prior work history with USAID-funded projects preferred.
• Strong interest in key children’s programming areas, such as child protection, health including HIV prevention and response, education etc.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
• High level of integrity
