New Delhi, Feb 7 (JEN) The Indian Supreme Court has granted a permanent bail to tribal activist Soni Sori, who was arrested in October 2011 for her alleged links with Chhattisgarh Maoists and then tortured in custody. The bail will now enable her to visit her hometown Dantewada.
Soni Sori's case was highlighted after reports that she was brutalized and raped in police custody.
"Giving electric shocks, stripping me naked, shoving stones inside me - is this going to solve the Naxal problem," she had asked in a letter to the Supreme Court, reported CNN IBN channel.
She had earlier got bail in November.
She had moved the Supreme Court against the Chhattisgarh High Court order that denied her bail on July 8 last year.
Sori was earlier denied bail to perform the last rites of her husband Anil Futane, who passed away on Aug 2,, 2013.
She was lodged at Raipur Central Jail since her arrest on in Oct, 2011.
