Islamabad:  Gunmen have attacked the office of the Karachi police chief in the Pakistani city's Sharea Faisal region on Friday, leaving at least two people dead.

Security forces have rushed to the spot and the operation is currently ongoing.

The attack began at around 7:10pm and is still ongoing, while multiple explosions were reported as well after terrorists targeted the five-storey police building, reports Geo News.

Authorities told the Pakistani news channel that four floors of the building have been cleared and soon, the situation will be under control.

According to reports, police snipers have taken up positions close to the station and all lights have been switched off.

A police officer, who did not want to be named, told Geo News that the attackers entered the office wearing police uniforms — a similar tactic used in the Peshawar mosque suicide attack that claimed the lives of more than 80 people.

According to reports, 11 people have been injured in the incident.

Talking to Geo News, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that commandos of police and Rangers had arrived at the site to deal with the terrorists.

He said that the federal government is in touch with the Sindh Police and "all assistance will be provided."

Sanaullah mentioned that he had spoken to the chief secretary and IG Sindh, who confirmed that the police saw "six to seven terrorists" entering the building.

Sindh government spokesperson Barrister Murtaza Wahab tweeted that security forces have neutralized three terrorists so far.

The exact number of attackers is still not known.

Which group claimed responsibility for the incident?

According to reports, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the incident.
