Kabul: The death toll in the Jalalabad suicide bombing has touched 21, local media outlets in Afghanistan reported while quoting government officials in Nangarhar.
Another 43 people have been injured in the attack, which took place at the entrance of a prison gate in PD4 of Jalalabad city, the provincial capital, at 6:44 pm on Sunday.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor's spokesman said the wounded have been moved to hospitals and said they are stable.
Local Tolo News quoted Emal Neyazi, Nangarhar's police chief, as saying that two blasts occurred inside the prison.
Rita Katz, Director of SITE Intelligence Group, said Islamic Group has claimed responsibility for the incident.
"BREAKING: Via Amaq, ISIS claims responsibility for suicide bombing and corresponding gun raid in #Jalalabad, the capital of #Nangarhar, #Afghanistan, which reportedly killed 3 and wounded 24," Katz's tweet read.
