Kabul: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a district police chief in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, media reports said on Thursday.
Attuallah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News, Khewa district police head Lt. Col. Matiullah Khan was gunned down in Badiala area.
The attack reportedly took place while the police chief was attending a soldier’s funeral on Wednesday.
The injured police chief succumbed to his wounds later in the hospital.
One civilian was also killed and four others were injured in the attack, Khogyani told the Afghanistan-based news agency , adding the wounded were evacuated to hospital.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
