In her first interview since the tragedy occurred, Christine Dawood, whose husband Shahzada and son Suleman died aboard the Titan submersible, has said the 19-year-old had taken his Rubik's Cube in the vehicle with the aim of breaking a world record.
The 19-year-old applied to the Guinness World Records and his father, Shahzada, who also died, had brought a camera to capture the moment, reports BBC.
Christine Dawood and her daughter were on board the Polar Prince, the sub's support vessel, when word came through that communications with the Titan had been lost.
"I didn't comprehend at that moment what it meant - and then it just went downhill from there," she told BBC.
In her first interview, Dawood said she had planned to go with her husband to view the wreck of the Titanic, but the trip was cancelled because of the Covid pandemic.
"Then I stepped back and gave them space to set [Suleman] up, because he really wanted to go," she said.
Apart from Shahzada and Suleman, three other people died in the mishap.
Christine Dawood said her son loved to play with Rubik's Cube and he carried it with him everywhere.
She said her son had said he would solve the Rubik's Cube 3,700 metres below the sea at the Titanic'.
