Kyiv/IBNS: Ukraine on Thursday proposed sanctions on Russia as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italy Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis met the conflict-hit country's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on their first trip to Kyiv since the war started in February.
Ukrainian officials told the media that the visiting EU leaders were provided with sanctions proposals against Russia, calling on them to “increase pressure” on Moscow, including a gas embargo.
Meanwhile, heavy fighting continues in the eastern city of Severodonetsk, local authorities told the media.
Amid the continued tension, the head of the United Nations refugee agency has informed that the food crisis triggered by the Ukraine war is set to drive record displacement to more “staggering” levels.
The United States has announced an additional $1 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, including more artillery and coastal defence weapons to combat the Russian military.
