Dubai: A major fire erupted in a container ship anchored at Dubai's crucial Jebel Ali port, late on Wednesday, according to media reports.
The giant flames were seen emanating from the ship following a massive explosion that shook Dubai, said an Al Jazeera report.
Post the explosion and fire in the Jebel Ali port, the busiest in the Middle East, located on the eastern side of the Arabian Peninsula, the officials said the situation is under control.
“A fire caused by an explosion within a container on board a ship at Jebel Ali Port has been brought under control; no casualties have been reported,” the Dubai Media Office (DMO) said on Twitter.

The explosion rocked Dubai with its effect felt in 25 km radius of the port, shaking buildings and windows and leaving people in shock.
No casualties have been reported due to the explosion and the fire at the busiest port which is also the busiest port of call for American warships outside of the US.

Early on Thursday, the Dubai government said that the emergency services have doused the flames and posted footage on social media of firefighters combating flames burning the giant shipping containers.
The Al Jazeera report citing Al Arabiya said that the Dubai government has claimed the ship’s crew had been evacuated in time.
