Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen
Dhaka: Addressing the international community, Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary Masud bin Momen said that not only Bangladesh, but also Myanmar should be looked at to solve the Rohingya crisis.
Bangladesh is ready for repatriation, but Myanmar's reluctance is not solving the problem, Momen alleged.
He said that the international community's easy attitude is making Myanmar even more courageous and helping the country dodge responsibility.
He made the comments at the second international conference on Thursday (December 3) titled "A Comparative Picture of the Rohingya Problem".
The Foreign Secretary said that if the repatriation is prolonged, Bangladesh and other countries in the region will also be destabilized.
Momen said humanitarian assistance can provide temporary relief, but will not solve the problem.
He further said that the humanitarian assistance being provided to Bangladesh by the international community should be similar to that provided for the protection of Rohingyas in Myanmar to restore confidence in the repatriation of Rohingyas in Bangladesh.
The foreign secretary alleged that countries that have the potential to influence Myanmar either do not want to use it or are pursuing a policy of favoring the nation.
Called the matter unfortunate, Momen said it must stop.
The United Nations and the international community seem to be more interested in providing humanitarian assistance than repatriation and a lasting solution, Momen said.
