Kathmandu: Protesting against the Pulwama terror attack in India's Jammu and Kashmir state this month which left 40 CRPF men killed, a group of Nepali civil society members staged a silent demonstration outside the Pakistani Embassy in Nepali capital Kathmandu on Monday, reports said.
The members of the civil society held banners and pamphlets of Lord Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi Mother Teresa and staged silent protest holding placard bearing slogans like “ stop terrorism” “ enough is enough” and “ stop bloodshed”, reported The Kathmandu Post.
As per the newspaper report, since the attack on February 14, spontaneous protests have been taking place in several parts of Nepal by the local civil society leaders.
Participants in the rally condoled the loss of lives in the tragedy and condemned the attack carried out by Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
A civil society group belonging to the Madhesi group on Feb 15 took out a candle light rally to pay homage to the killed soldiers in Kathmandu.
“We offered pray to the departed soul and support the bid of Indian government in its position to eliminate the terrorism,” Birendra KM, one of the organisers of the rally, was quoted as saying by The Kathmandu Post.
Birgunj, Jaleshwar, Bhubeneshwar, and Rupandehi areas of the Himalayan nation also witnessed several protest rallies recently.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs had also condemned the terror attack which had left India shocked.
Many countries have condemned the incident.
Feb 26: Another Surgical Strike
In a first official confirmation, the Indian government on Tuesday said the Indian Air Force (IAF) had carried out a "non-military pre-emptive" surgical strike across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), a step which seems to be a fitting reply to the recent Pulwama attack, which had left over 40 Indian paramilitary personnel martyred.
India blamed Pakistan for Pulwama
The latest strike by the IAF occurred just two weeks after the Pulwama terror attack in Kashmir.
India after the attack by a suicide bomber of Jaish-e-Mohammad said: "This heinous and despicable act has been perpetrated by Jaish-e-Mohammed, a Pakistan-based and supported terrorist organisation proscribed by the United Nations and other countries. This terror group is led by the international terrorist Masood Azhar, who has been given full freedom by Government of Pakistan to operate and expand his terror infrastructure in territories under the control of Pakistan and to carry out attacks in India and elsewhere with impunity."
Surgical Strike in 2016
In Sept 2016, amid mass anger in India over the Uri attack in Kashmir, India had carried out surgical strikes crossing the Line of Control (LoC) into Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK), targeting terrorist launchpads working from within the neighbouring country.
Pakistan denied that there were surgical attacks calling India's claims as "fabrication of truth" but Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had warned India against any aggression.
