Washington: In the wake of the recent Florida school shooting, which accounted for 17 lives, US retail majors Walmart and Dick's Sporting Goods have announced stricter measures on gun sales.
Dick's Sporting Goods said that it'll not sell assault style rifle any more, while Walmart is raising the minimum age to buy either a rifle or ammunition to 21 years.
Earlier, sending a strong message to National Rifle Association (NRA), companies including Hertz car rental, United airlines and Delta airlines have ended discounts to the former's members.
"United is notifying the NRA that we will no longer offer a discounted rate to their annual meeting and we are asking that the NRA remove our information from their website," United Airlines said in a Twitter post.
Delta Air Lines tweeted, "Delta is reaching out to the NRA to let them know we will be ending their contract for discounted rates through our group travel program. We will be requesting that the NRA remove our information from their website."
Others who snubbed the NRA following the incident are: Software firm Symantec, Enterprise Holdings, which owns rental car brands Alamo, Enterprise and National, First National Bank of Omaha, Insurance firm Chubb and Insurer MetLife Inc.
Walmart will also remove assault rifles from its website, the largest gun seller in the US said.
"We take seriously our obligation to be a responsible seller of firearms," a company statement read.
Even as Walmart raised the age from 18 to 21, Republican lawmakers in the US Congress are against it being a national policy.
However, Trump has urged his party members to give it a thought.
"Some of you people are petrified of the NRA, you can't be petrified," he told lawmakers.
The NRA supported Trump during his presidential candidature.
