US President Donald Trump on Sunday sharply criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel’s strike on Lebanon, saying the Israeli leader had shown poor judgment at a time when Washington was close to securing a peace deal with Iran.
Speaking to CNN political and global affairs analyst and Axios reporter Barak Ravid, Trump reportedly said: “(Netanyahu) has no f**king judgment. I let him know that.”
In a separate post on Truth Social, Trump expressed concern over the Israeli strike on Beirut, saying it risked undermining ongoing diplomatic efforts in the region.
“This morning’s attack on Beirut should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran,” he wrote.
Trump acknowledged Israel’s right to defend itself against security threats but argued that the incident prompting the response was minor.
“Nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process,” he said.
The US President further urged all parties to exercise restraint, saying: “We are very close to a Deal that will bring peace to the region, including to Lebanon, and all sides should stand down. There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there should also be no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel.”
In a strongly worded message, Trump added: “This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace — Let’s not blow it!”
