US President Donald Trump said the next round of talks between Washington and Tehran is expected in the next two days.
Trump said the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, where the first talks occurred, will host the second round of meetings.
“You should stay there, really, because something could be happening over the next two days, and we’re more inclined to go there,” Trump told New York Post, referring to Islamabad.
“It’s more likely, you know why? Because the field marshal is doing a great job," he said.
Trump did not confirm to the newspaper who would represent the US in a potential second round of talks, but confirmed he would not take part.
He praised Pakistan's Army Chief Field Marshal, Asim Munir, as a 'great guy' who is doing a 'fantastic' task and that is why the US and Iran would go back to the talks in Islamabad.
He told New York Post: "He’s fantastic, and therefore it’s more likely that we go back there."
Trump said: "Why should we go to some country that has nothing to do with it?”
“I just think he’s a great guy, that guy. The field marshal. You know he ended the war with India, saved 30 million people,” he said.
Following the first round of talks, US Vice President JD Vance said no progress was made during 21 hours of high-stakes negotiations between the United States and Iran held in Pakistan.
After three rounds of discussions that stretched into the early hours, Vance said Iran had “chosen not to accept” Washington’s terms.
“The President said we have to come in good faith and try to make a deal. Unfortunately, there was no headway,” he said.
