Ulan Bator/Xinhua: Voter turnout in Mongolia's regular parliamentary elections reached 25.13 percent on Wednesday, according to government tally.
The number was calculated at 12:00 p.m. local time (2000 GMT), which is 1.73 percentage points higher than the 23.4 percent of the 2016 general elections, Barsuren Baasandorj, head of the country's General Authority for State Registration, said at a press conference at the headquarter of the General Election Commission (GEC).
The vote began from 7 a.m. local time (1500 GMT), and will last for 15 hours at 2,070 polling stations across the country, according to the GEC.
A total of 13 political parties, four coalitions and 137 independent candidates are running for the regular parliamentary elections, and more than 2.1 million Mongolians are eligible to vote, said the GEC.
The State Great Khural, Mongolia's unicameral parliament, consists of 76 lawmakers serving a four-year term.
