Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, US media reported.
Weinstein's alleged sexual misconduct had triggered the #MeToo movement, leaving the entertainment world in shock.
Sources told NBC News that Weinstein is undergoing treatment in prison at Rikers Island in New York.
In a statement to NBC News on Monday night, Weinstein's legal health care representative Craig Rothfeld said in part, "Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein's privacy, we will offer no further comment."
Apart from a cancer diagnosis, Weinstein underwent a heart surgery last month.
The former Hollywood mogul is currently serving 16-year in prison following his conviction in multiple rape charges in California.
He was even found guilty in New York in 2020 for raping an actress and forcibly performing oral sex on a production assistant.
Weinstein started facing legal troubles in 2017 when allegations of sexual misconduct emerged against him.
All these allegations ultimately led to his downfall.
More than 80 women made allegations of sexual harassment and/or rape against Weinstein.
The allegations sparked the #MeToo social media campaign and subsequent sexual abuse allegations against many powerful men around the world; this phenomenon is referred to as the "Weinstein effect".
