A police constable was killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a polio vaccination team in Dera Murad Jamali town of Balochistan, Pakistan, media reports said.
According to police officials, the team was returning home during a lunch break when assailants riding motorcycles targeted the police personnel escorting them, reported Dawn News.
The deceased constable has been identified as Farhan Bashir.
“A constable was martyred after armed men opened fire on police personnel. However, the other members of the team remained unhurt,” Nasirabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asad Nasar told Dawn News.
Reports said the attackers fired around ten 9mm rounds, killing the constable on the spot.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Security forces have launched a search operation to trace and apprehend those involved.
