“I condemn the murder of João Miranda do Carmo,” Irina Bokova, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), said in a statement issued on 24 August.
“I call on the authorities to investigate this crime and bring its perpetrators to justice so as to protect journalists' ability to continue contributing to informed public debate,” she added.
