US President Donald Trump has praised his relationship with Pakistan and commended the country’s leadership amid escalating tensions between Islamabad and Kabul.

When asked by reporters whether he would intervene to stop the conflict, Trump said he would be willing to step in if necessary.
“I would (intervene). But I get along with Pakistan very well,” he was quoted as saying.

Praising Pakistan’s leadership, Trump added that he holds Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the country’s military leadership in high regard.

“They have a great Prime Minister, a great general. They have a great leader — two of the people that I really respect a lot. Pakistan is doing terrifically well,” he said.

Meanwhile, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker extended support to Pakistan following recent developments.

She spoke with Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary to express condolences over the lives lost in the latest conflict between Pakistan and the Taliban.

In a post on X, Hooker said: “Spoke today with Pakistan Foreign Secretary Baloch to express condolences for lives lost in the recent conflict between Pakistan and the Taliban. We continue to monitor the situation closely and expressed support for Pakistan’s right to defend itself against Taliban attacks.”

The remarks come amid intensifying cross-border hostilities between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Pakistan has declared what it described as an “open war” against Afghanistan after conducting airstrikes in Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia.
This marks the first time Pakistan has targeted Taliban-controlled cities, alleging that they are harbouring terrorist elements.
