New York : Several celebrities are backing independent candidate Andrew Cuomo in the New York City Mayoral race where Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and Republican Curtis Sliwa are also in the contest, media reports said.

As per a report by Just Jared, actress and comedian Amy Schumer, who did an early voting in the election, hinted at whom she voted for.

Though she did not reveal much, Amy implied that it was Cuomo for whom she cast her vote.

American singer Marc Anthony has shared a video message in support of Cuomo.

The video was shared by Cuomo, who wrote on Instagram, "I am honored to have @marcanthony’s support, and am so grateful for his partnership in the past as we’ve worked together to support Puerto Rico. New York City values our Puerto Rican community deeply.

"I thank Marc for his commitment to New York City and to Puerto Rico, and I look forward to working alongside him to support La Isla Del Encanto when I am mayor."

American filmmaker-actor Woody Allen clearly stated he would vote for Cuomo.

Allen said as quoted by Just Jared, "I’m gonna vote. I’m gonna vote for Cuomo."

"I think Cuomo will do a much better job. Cuomo will be much better for New York. He’ll be much more efficient and he’ll be much more, he’ll just do a better job," he added.

Cuomo's Mayoral run in NYC

  • In March 2025, Cuomo announced his candidacy for Mayor of New York City (NYC) in the 2025 election.
  • He campaigned on issues such as public safety, affordability, and skyrocketing crime and homelessness — arguing that his executive experience was needed.
  • Though he entered the Democratic primary, reports show he also planned to continue to run as an independent if the primary didn’t go his way.
  • His comeback is widely described as controversial — many Democrats and voters remain skeptical due to his past scandals.
