The return of the poke to the Facebook universe assumes significance especially at a time when the social media giant is heading towards experimenting with AI.

Announcing the reintroduction of the feature, Facebook posted on Instagram: "It’s time to start poking again ?."

The social media giant promised that 'poking' has now become easier.

Users soon relived their past Facebook memories and shared their feelings in the comment section.

One of the users asked Meta to bring Facebook gaming, which was one a popular feature on the platform.

"Pokes? Could you please bring back Facebook gaming. It’s been on life support for a few years," one social media user wrote.

"Nostalgia @facebook," another said.

The poke feature was first launched in 2004.

It was later moved from the main app in 2014, after features started gaining popularity.
