Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk on Saturday won a major vote when people in South Texas gave him the mandate to establish Starbase as a city.
The region is located at the southern tip of Texas.
Most of the eligible people who participated in the voting process are SpaceX employees.
Results published online by Cameron County show 212 votes in favour versus six opposed, reported BBC.

Space X chief Elon Musk announced the development on X when he wrote: "Starbase, Texas."
"Is now a real city!" he said.
The new city covers about 1.6 sq miles (3.9 sq km).
The region remained sparsely populated before Space X started buying land in the area in 2012.

The city's government will comprise of a mayor and two commissioners who will have power over planning, taxation and other local issues, reported BBC.
Some Locals Oppose
However, some locals have objected to the formation of the city by claiming that SpaceX is harming the environment.
According to reports, SpaceX vice-president Bobby Peden is likely to become the first Mayor of the city.
Peden ran unopposed, as did two other residents with SpaceX ties who will fill the two commissioner seats, reported BBC.
