British reality TV star Vicky Pattison will release her own deepfake pornography to social media as a part of a Channel 4 documentary in a bid to explore the issue and the way it adversely affects women and girls.
37-year-old Vicky earlier featured in several popular TV shows like I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and Geordie Shore.
She had directed, produced and distributed the explicit video.
AI technology has been used to superimpose her face onto the actor portraying her likeness, reported The Telegraph.
The video will be released on the social media to learn more about how the content spreads online and the processes involved in trying to get it taken down.
In a separate Instagram post, the actress said: "I’ve done something I never thought I would ever find myself doing: I’ve created & released my own deepfake sex tape for a brand new documentary coming to @channel4."
Stating the purpose of making the content, she said: "I wanted to expose the devastating reality of deepfake pornography: content made without consent, created with alarming ease using readily available technology, stripping women of their dignity & control, & leaving their lives in pieces."
She said the 'abuse' of technology is rising.
She said: "This film is my plea for action. We need stronger laws. We need tech companies to step up. We need society to wake up."
Last year, UK-based Revenge Porn Helpline said nearly 19,000 reports were made to the Helpline in 2023, a 106% increase in reports compared to 2022.
Out of the cases the Revenge Porn Helpline supported, sextortion remained the predominant form of intimate image abuse reported to the Helpline, totalling 34% of the reports received in 2023.
Overall, cases of sextortion were up 54% when compared to 2022, and cases continued to disproportionately affect men, making up 93% of sextortion reports.
