Users said Siri was listening to them without taking consent.

Users of the iPhone complained that Apple was routinely recording private conversations after Siri was activated unintentionally.

According to reports, users claimed their conversations were disclosed to third parties like advertisers.

A preliminary settlement was filed on Tuesday night in the Oakland, California federal court, and requires approval by US district judge Jeffrey White, reported The Guardian.

As per media reports, customers in the USA who owned or purchased iPhones and other devices equipped with Siri from September 17, 2014, through the end of last year, will be eligible for the settlement.

Each consumer could receive up to $20 per Siri-equipped device covered by the settlement, although the payment could be reduced or increased, depending on the volume of claims, the Associated Press reported.

Eligible customers can seek compensation on a maximum of five devices.
