Indian-origin US Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday formally accepted the Democratic nomination for the upcoming presidential race and vowed to be the president for all Americans.
Addressing the final night of the National Democratic Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Harris said: "I know there are people of various political views watching tonight."
"I promise to be a president for all Americans," she said.
Harris said she will always put the country ahead of the party and herself.
Pledging to fight for 'America's future', Harris slammed his opponent Republican nominee Donald Trump and described him as an 'unserious man'.
Warning American voters, Harris said: "The consequences of putting Donald Trump back in the White House are extremely serious."
Israel issue
The American Vice President vowed to stand up for Israel's right to defend itself.
"I will always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself, and I will always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself, because the people of Israel must never again face the horror that a terrorist organization called Hamas caused on October 7," she was quoted as saying by CNN.
Gaza situation 'devastating'
However, Harris said the situation through which Gaza has been passing for the past 10 months is 'devastating'.
"So many innocent lives lost. Desperate, hungry people fleeing for safety over and over again. The scale of suffering is heartbreaking," she said.
Kamala Harris joined the presidential race after US President Joe Biden quit the path to re-enter the White House for the second term.
If elected to power, Harris will be the first American President of the country.
Joe Biden posted on X: "Jill and I just spoke to @KamalaHarris — we can’t wait to watch her accept this historic nomination."
