The US Central Command on Thursday said Houthi launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles at an American-owned tanker ship in the Red Sea.

No damage was caused due to the attack.

"On Jan. 18 at approximately 9 p.m. (Sanaa time), Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles at M/V Chem Ranger, a Marshall Island-flagged, U.S.-Owned, Greek-operated tanker ship," the US Central Command posted on X.

The crew of the vessel observed the missiles impact the water near the ship.

"There were no reported injuries or damage to the ship. The ship has continued underway," read the post on X.

The recent attacks against vessels in and around Red Sea by Houthi led to strikes by the UK and the UK on Yemen.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan earlier described the attacks on Red Sea as acts of 'terrorism'.

The US recently designated Houthis as 'Global Terrorist' organization.

On January 17, Jake Sullivan said in a statement: "Over the past months, Yemen-based Houthi militants have engaged in unprecedented attacks against United States military forces and international maritime vessels operating in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. These attacks fit the textbook definition of terrorism."

"They have endangered U.S. personnel, civilian mariners, and our partners, jeopardized global trade, and threatened freedom of navigation. The United States and the international community have been united in our response and in condemning these attacks in the strongest terms," he said.

He said: " Today, in response to these continuing threats and attacks, the United States announced the designation of Ansarallah, also known as the Houthis, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist."
