A former Afghan interpreter, who immigrated with his family to America in 2021 to escape the Taliban, was shot dead in Washington recently, media reports said.

Police are currently searching for the suspects.

He was working as a ride-share driver in the USA.

"At approximately 12:08 am, First District officers responded to the listed location for the report of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male shooting victim inside of a vehicle. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead," read a statement issued by the police.

Ahmad Yar, an interpreter who served alongside US Army Special Forces in Afghanistan for a decade before the Taliban takeover, had been working an extra rideshare shift when he was slain, according to a verified GoFundMe page, reports CNN.

Meanwhile, police said they are rewarding up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
