Dhaka: At least one person died and 10 others were hurt when a fire broke out at a residential building in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka on Sunday.
According to reports, residents jumped from the building which is located in Dhaka's upscale Gulshan area.
As many as 114 firefighters from 19 units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence battled the blaze that broke out on the sixth floor of the 12-storey building on road No. 104 of Gulshan-2 around 7pm7 pm Sunday, Khaleda Yasmin, an official at the fire service control room, told bdnews24.
Firefighters rescued 22 people including two children.
No one was found in the building in a search operation after the blaze was tamed around 11pm,11 pmg Gen Md Main Uddin, director general of the fire service, told bdnews24.
Fire officials suspect a short circuit had triggered the blaze.
Meanwhile, the identity of the deceased could not be ascertained till the last report came in.
The injured people were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
