Washington: Jailed Chinese journalist Zhang Zhan and disappeared rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng have been awarded the Lin Zhao Freedom Award for their contributions in promoting civil society and advancing the rule of law.
ChinaAid, a Texas headquartered Christian rights group, said it had presented Gao's award to his US-based wife Geng He, while China Change's founder Chen Yaxue accepted Zhang's award, which honors a Mao-era dissident executed by the Chinese government, reports Radio Free Asia.
Chinese officials arrested Zhang Zhan in 2019 for her coverage of the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan.
She now suffers from her ongoing hunger strike which threatens her life, read a statement issued by ChinaAid.
