Dhaka: Eleven people were killed in lightning strikes in three districts of Bangladesh on Monday (May 24th). Of these, five died in Chapainawabganj, four in Sirajganj and two in Chittagong.
The deceased in Chapainawabganj district have been identified as Rabiul Islam (27), Alamin (13), Khushi (12), Sadia (10), and Azizul Haque (55).
They were residents of diffrent upazilas in the district.
Meanwhile, four people were killed in lightning strikes in Chithulia and Dugli of Shahjadpur upazila and Krishnapur area of Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district.
They have been identified as Nazmul (15), Hashem Ali (25), Shakera Begum (58) and Mohna Khatun (17).
Shahjadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shah Mohammad Shamsuzzoha confirmed the death of four people in the lightning strike and said their families would be provided financial assistance.
On the other hand, two construction workers named Elias (50) and Kasem (40) were killed in a lightning strike at a beel in Paschim Baria village of Battali union in Anwara upazila of Chittagong district.
Anwara Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Didarul Islam said the two workers went to a tea shop in the village after work on Sunday evening. On the way home from there, they were struck by lightning.
