Kabul: At least nine Taliban militants, including a commander, were killed by security forces in Afghanistan's Helmand province on Wednesday.
The raids were conducted in Nawa district, the Ministry of Defence said in a tweet.
The commander has been identified as Abdullah Jan.
According to the ministry, the militants were gunned down after they attacked ANDSF positions.
The ANA soldiers also defused 28 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), that were placed on public roads.
"Abdullah Jan, one of TB’s commanders, was killed with 8 of his fighters in Nawa district of Helmand Prov. after they attacked ANDSF positions last night. During the reciprocal operations, 28 IEDs which were placed on public roads in the district were discovered and defused by ANA," the tweet read.
