Kabul: At least 10 people were killed and 16 others injured in a blast which rocked Afghanistan's Kabul on Wednesday morning.

The blast took place in the capital city's Taimani area and targeted first Vice President Amrullah Saleh’s convoy.

Though Saleh survived the attack, some of his personnel were wounded.

Saleh sustained minor wounds on his hands and face, he said in a video message, confirming the blast.

He also apologised for the lives lost during the attack.

The Taliban denied any involvement in the blast.

Condemning the attack, the Presidential Palace said such acts will not weaken the resolve of people and the armed forces will continue to carry out anti terrorism drives.

EU representatives in Afghanistan tweeted, "Strongly condemn the cowardly attack against the First Vice President @AmrullahSaleh2. We are glad that he remains unharmed. This is an attack on the Republic, & desperate act by spoilers of peace efforts, who must be collectively confronted. Condolences to the affected families."
