Islamabad: Earlier on Wednesday, local police in Kharmang area of Gilgit Baltistan arrested popular political leader Shehzad Agha ahead of the general polls in Pakistan.
Agha was arrested from his home, local reports said.
The detained leader is a popular face among residents of GB and has lead the way in many protests against the government.
However, this is not the first time he has courted arrest. Agha has been subjected to police brutality in the past, primarily for taking a stand against the alleged atrocities committed by Islamabad.
A few months ago, the GB region witnessed mass protests after several opposition parties united against a federal order which failed to recognise Gilgit Baltistan as part of Pakistan.
The region is governed by presidential orders.
