Islamabad: In a landmark verdict, Pakistan's Supreme Court has disqualified former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for life from holding office, media reports said on Friday.
In an unanimous decision taken by a five-member bench, Sharif was handed the disqualification under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution, local Dawn News reported.
Sharif cannot contest elections or become a member of parliament in the future.
Sharif was found guilty in the Panama Papers case.
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen too has been disqualified under the same article and is likely to share a similar fate.
More details awaited.
