About the Sustainable Development Solutions Network

The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement.

We aim to accelerate joint learning and promote integrated approaches that address the interconnected economic, social, and environmental challenges confronting the world. The SDSN works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, academia and civil society.

About the SDG Academy

The SDG Academy is the flagship education initiative of the SDSN, with the mandate of creating and curating the best available online educational content on sustainable development and making it available as a global public good. The Academy brings together the world’s foremost experts on sustainable development, from fields as varied as early childhood development, public health, food systems, and macroeconomics – to offer a comprehensive core curriculum around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), equipping the next generation of sustainable development practitioners to take on the complex challenges facing our planet. The SDG Academy is hosted by the SDSN Association, a 501(c)3 organization based in New York.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The SDG Academy is seeking a Communications Intern to coordinate our social media presence and provide thoughtful execution of all written communications. This role requires someone who is excited about developing engaging content to promote our content and activities and share our brand, utilizing new and existing channels of engagement. You will play a key role as part of a small team, traditionally based in New York but presently operating across the Eastern Time zone. Our team values proactivity, creative thinking, and flexibility to meet our ambitious goals. You will have the opportunity to contribute to our online presence, as well as develop networks of engagement across our diverse audiences. The position requires 20 hours/week. Candidates must have prior legal authorization to work in the U.S. and will be expected to adhere to an Eastern Time (ET) working hours. The position runs until May 28, 2021.

Primary responsibilities:

• Craft and manage all social media outreach
• Manage submissions, editing, and publication of blog posts
• Support the Alumni Advocates program
• Manage the communications email account
• Create and update promotional materials and kits for internal and external use
• Organize assets (promotional images, video clips, etc.) for future use
• Assist with management of the SDG Academy Library

Secondary responsibilities:

• Troubleshoot processes and document all new protocols developed by this position
• Additional requests made by the SDG Academy team or SDSN colleagues

The ideal candidate will have:

• Excellent communications skills, including writing, editing, and design communications
• Attention to detail
• Extensive knowledge of and experience with social media knowledge
• Experience with communications tools including Mailchimp, Google Office Suite, Buffer, Adobe Softwares, Canva, or comparable software
• Tact and thoughtfulness when dealing with both internal and external partners

Preferred characteristics:

• Eagerness to engage with the organization and management
• Outgoing disposition with a willingness to propose creative ideas
• Early career professional or recent graduate looking to begin a career in sustainable development/ sustainability
• Remote work experience and confidence to be a self-starter
