Regional Researcher (Vietnam & Cambodia) - South East Asia and Pacific Regional Office

ABOUT THE ROLE
As a research-based campaigning organization, investigating and documenting human rights issues is fundamental to our work. You will be responsible for going out into the field, speaking to victims of human rights abuses, recording their stories, analyzing them through the lens of international human rights and humanitarian law, and making your findings public through clear, effective language. You will be someone who is rigorous, adopts innovative research methodologies and will apply a campaign-oriented approach to your work.
You will represent Amnesty International to government officials, partner organizations, and the media. You will be a team player who can work closely with other staff in the regional office and across Amnesty International's global movement.

ABOUT YOU
With an expert knowledge of human rights issues in the region, you will have a firm grasp of the socio-political landscape, advanced analytical skills and sound political judgment. As someone who has extensively worked and lived in this region, you have developed a strong network of local partners and contacts as well as an expert knowledge of at least one or more of the following Southeast Asian countries: Cambodia and Vietnam. Advanced English language skills are essential, with fluency in the languages of one of these countries highly desirable.
You are an experienced and creative researcher who has applied sound research methodologies to credibly and rigorously document human rights violations, as well as used new methodologies and technologies in the field of human rights research. Your documentation skills reflect a meticulous attention to detail and an ability to situate human rights abuses within a wider socio-political context. You have knowledge of international human rights standards and familiarity with regional and universal mechanisms for the protection of human rights.
Able to work under pressure, you are an excellent writer with authoritative public speaking skills and a familiarity with social media. You are a self-starter who is also able to work across different teams with ease, comfortable sharing your knowledge and learning from others. Experience in investigate journalism or other investigative approaches is desirable.
