Landing a job at Google may be a dream for many tech professionals, but for one New York-based techie, the high-paying role was only a temporary stop on his career journey.

Kevin Naughton Jr recently shared his experience at Google, where he was earning nearly $350,000 (around Rs 3.3 crore) a year before quitting to build his own startup.

Naughton said he was confident from the beginning that he would eventually want to work for himself.

In an Instagram post, he said the real turning point in his life came in 2022, when he lost his father.

Sharing his corporate journey, Naughton wrote: "People ask when I decided to leave Google. Honestly? Day one. I always knew I wanted to work for myself."

He added: "But the real turning point was 2022, when I lost my dad. It was the biggest wake-up call of my life. You have to do what you want. You have to be happy every day."

Reflecting on his time at the tech giant, he said: "Google was the best 9-to-5 job I could've asked for. It just wasn't mine."

His post sparked an online debate, with several users sharing their thoughts on his decision and asking about life after leaving a lucrative corporate career.

One user wrote: "Thanks for sharing bro! Wondering, did you ever regret the decision? Did you ever miss the 9-5 life? Or did you find your current life is exactly what you wanted? I'm also at a point where I want to try something new, so really curious about your thoughts, thanks!"

Another user praised his decision, writing: "The streets don't know, this was the original joga bonito! Congratulations on all your success Kev!"
