The video was released by Iran's semi-official Mehr News Agency on August 8. Mehr described it as the “first video” of Mojtaba Khamenei since he assumed the country's top leadership position.

In the footage, Khamenei is seen sitting on a carpet inside a closed room and interacting with a group of people. He is wearing a black turban and a light-grey robe over white clothing.

However, the video is undated, and it remains unclear when and where it was recorded.

The release comes amid renewed reports and speculation about Khamenei's health.

He has maintained a notably low public profile since succeeding his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in US-Israeli strikes on February 28.

In March, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB had also released a similar clip described as showing Mojtaba Khamenei teaching religious studies.

Since assuming office, Mojtaba Khamenei has issued multiple written statements through Iranian state-run news agencies. However, he has otherwise made few public appearances or released voice recordings or video footage.

Mojtaba Khamenei has also largely remained out of public view, including during the public funeral ceremonies for his father.

The latest footage appears to offer a rare glimpse of Iran's Supreme Leader, although its timing and location could not be independently verified.
